YURI KATSUKI: HEARTBREAKER!!!!11!!11

ayabai:

Can we all just accept the fact that Yuri spent an entire summer completely oblivious to Victor’s awkward, erstwhile, and direct courtship because he’d already spent 5 years in Detroit being conditioned to think that Westerners Sure Are Touchy Feely and Generous.

  • “I don’t know why half the hockey team always has so much extra food and keep giving me lunch and offering to cook for me, is it because I look super poor and hungry Phichit? Here are some steak sandwiches Chad? Thad? Brad?* gave me today”
    • (”YES YOU SHOULD LOOK EVEN POORER AND HUNGRIER,” Phichit says, mouth full. “THIS STEAK SANDWICH IS PRETTY GOOD.”)
  • Drunk on courage and 5 beers, one of the Chads approaches Beautiful Figure Skater Yuri Katsuki at a frat party. DON’T FUCK THIS UP CHAD, he screams to himself in his head. “You have beautiful eyes,” he says, trying to sound suave. Beautiful Figure Skater Yuri Katsuki blinks those beautiful eyes up at him, then taps the shoulder of the girl next to him who’s been throwing him sultry glances for the last half hour, hoping to catch Yuri’s attention. “Excuse me,” he says softly, “this nice guy said you have beautiful eyes.” “Good luck,” he whispers to Chad as he elbows by him.
  • “You look great in that shirt,” one of the Thads says to him at the rink. “It’d look even better on my bedroom floor.” “I got it in the sporting section at the TJ Maxx on Barton Street,” Yuri says earnestly, as he skates away. “There were still plenty of sizes left.”
  • “YOU HAVE SUCH A GREAT ASS,” one of the Brads keeps screaming in Yuri’s ear in the middle of the super loud, thumping club. “I DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU CAN GET SOME GRASS,” Yuri keeps yelling back, confused.
  • “I saw on TV on those American Football games that sometimes the players will smack each other on the bum so is that why the hockey players keep grabbing my butt Phichit, I think they keep mistaking me for one of their teammates.”
    • “Of course Yuri,” Phichit says innocently, mentally making a note to observe who’s been playing grab-ass with Yuri at the rink so he can know who to sell his Secret Stash of Yuri In a Towel Coming Out of the Shower photos to, because while the Ch/Th/Brads are keeping him fed, them coaching fees are expensive yo.
  • At yet another frat party, about a year before the events of the series, one of the Chads is drunk enough to grab Yuri by the waist, pulling him close. “You’re the most beautiful man in the world,” he says, breathlessly. “NO,” Yuri yells, because he, too, is also drunk, but at the belligerent point of drunk. “THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MAN IN THE WORLD,” he says, flipping open his wallet. About 20 linked photos of a tall, devastatingly gorgeous silver haired man tumble out. WTF? Yuri Katsuki is dating a model? Chad sadly reports this to the assembled Ch/Th/Brads the next day.
    • “Of course his boyfriend is celebrity-level beautiful,” they weep together. “He was always out of our league.” They don’t stop making Yuri food, though.
    • A couple years later, when the Katsuki-Nikiforov wedding appears in the headlines and in a splash article feature in Vogue, Ch/Th/Brads will look at Victor Nikiforov’s beautiful, devoted, and smitten face gazing at Yuri and text each other, Goddammit, Beautiful Figure Skater Yuri Katsuki’s boyfriend finally locked it down.

If you struggle with anxiety, overwhelm, or just plain feeling like a failure, I have a mantra for you that’s been really helping me out lately:

Just show up.

I used to skip class because the whole thing was so overwhelming: I had to get dressed in something clean even though I never had the energy to do laundry, walk to school, sit in class for up to three hours, plus pay attention, take notes, and participate in discussion. In reality, I was being a perfectionist, and life would have been a lot easier for me if I had Just Shown Up. By staying home because of my depression and anxiety, I wasn’t giving myself the chance to do any of that. I was such a perfectionist that being a “bad” or average student was unthinkable, so I stopped being a student at all.

If you’re having trouble getting something done, Just Show Up. You don’t have to be employee of the month. You don’t have to be valedictorian. Just Show Up.

ime it also helps to be like “you dont have to stay the whole time, you just have to go” bc most of the time once youre there it’s fine. a lot of things are like that, like… you dont have to finish the dishes, just start them. a lot of the time once you start a task it’s easier to finish than to stop, especially if you can trick yourself like “after five more minutes if i still feel bad i’ll go home” or “after washing two more dishes i can stop for today”

even if you don’t finish the task, you started it, and by completing part of it you lessened your future workload and ALSO taught your brain that things may not be as daunting as they seem

This is wisdom! Peace!

you know what years of therapy taught me – Redefine success

so what if no one else gets how the things you define as successes are victories because you have to

so you got to work – success

you used public transport – success

you went to the supermarket instead of ordering online and didn’t just buy things you dind’t want because you got scared – MASSIVE success

Redefine success, your body moved the goal posts, there is no shame in acknwoledging that

This may not help other people the way it helps me, so take it or leave it as needed, but:

A lot of the time, Big Epic Awesome Things are built up out of little tiny just showing up, too.

Every year, the richest person in America is declared the “Winner of Capitalism.” They get a badge. Then all of their wealth is donated to charity and they have to start over at $0.

This procedure results in the worlds richest people donating excessive amounts of money ahead of the event in an attempt to avoid being hit by a real life blue shell. Thus adding to the overall annual donation.
